linguistics community unexpectedly lost a globally shining colleague who was an
icon of cross cultural linguistics and a symbol of dedication to the field. Dr.
Farzad Sharifian whom I had the pleasure of working with some decades ago
before his departure to Australia.
I found Farzad a
caring and a sharing person who was seeking excellence in his work to make
valuable contributions to the field, and he accomplished all and more. To me,
his leaving us was a great loss as a colleague, but a huge loss as an
irreplaceable scholar to the field.
I am positive that he
will be adoringly remembered by his family members, students, colleagues, and
many scholars in the field. I was grievously impressed when I was offered
condolences from my colleagues around the world for losing such a great friend.
I am positive his name along with his
contributions will not fade way for a long time to come.
To show respect to
Farzad, I will gladly take the honor of preparing a book in “Honor of Late
Professor Sharifian” if scholars in Iran, Australia, and other places around
the world who had the pleasure of working with him contribute. This may be the
least we can do to keep his memory alive in the field. I am leaving this to
TELLSI organization to take the initial steps.
he rest in peace.
